A Safe Place in the Storm: Suicide Awareness and Prevention Week

Join us on the Springfield campus Nov. 5-9 for “A Safe Place in the Storm” Suicide Prevention and Awareness Week! Phi Theta Kappa is hosting a week-long awareness event will feature a 3-D art installation that builds throughout the week, as well as the following events:

Monday: Stop by the Jared Family Atrium to take a look at the 3-D art. The Hamra Library will have suicide awareness displays during the week.

Tuesday: Local speaker Mary Jane Holmes will speak of her experiences as the mother of someone who chose suicide.  This event will be held from 11 a.m. to noon in the Board of Trustees Conference room. Look for the volunteers in “A Safe Place” shirt for more information.

Wednesday: Legacy Tattoo artists will be on campus to raise awareness of the impact of suicide.

Thursday: Local speaker Kathy Davis, the mother of a veteran who chose suicide, will be in the Board of Trustees Conference room from 11 a.m. to noon.

Friday: We will host an all-day screening of the film, “The Ripple Effect” in room ICE 123C. Counselors will be on hand for students to talk to for any concerns or questions.
